“My earliest memory of recording was aged about 9, sellotaping a microphone to the ceiling of my parents attic above my brother’s drum kit. It was not until about 6 years later that I revisited this pursuit when I acquired an assortment of crappy microphones and a half-decent computer. I recorded loads of great bands and artists from my home and learned a hell of a lot mainly through gloriously fucking up and brazen trial and error. It first dawned on me that I should actually start taking it all slightly more seriously when various A&R folk began emptying my mum’s biscuit tin all the time.”
At only 26, Charlie is arguably the hottest young British producer today. His production of ‘You’ve Got the Love’ for Florence and the Machine scored him his first top 10 and helped get the album to number one that same week. The track was later awarded ‘Single of the Year’ at the Q Awards, whilst his various productions helped the album go triple-platinum. In September he re-entered the studio with Florence to produce the tracks that would form the bonus edition of her second album ‘Ceremonials’.
His production and mixing work with Ed Sheeran on tracks like the gold single ‘You Need Me’, ‘Grade 8′ and ‘Drunk’ have led to a platinum album.
Recently he has been finishing up producing the Delilah [Atlantic] album with Ballistic whilst also donning mixing duties.
Charlie balances a lot of his work with more established acts with young bands including the likes of The 2.54, Alex Winston, To Kill a King, amongst man others.
He was recently named in a feature by The Guardian as one of the best new producers in the world today
